Created in January 2023 by the FRQ, the Chair is housed at the Intersectoral Centre for Sustainable Health at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi and at VITAM – Sustainable Health Research Centre of the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale, affiliated with Université Laval.

From supporting the next generation and training to awareness-raising initiatives and concrete projects on the ground, the Sustainable Health Research Chair works hand in hand with citizens to help improve the health and well-being of our communities. The INRS and UQAC have created a joint research unit (UMR) in the field of sustainable health, for collective prosperity in the face of major societal challenges, primarily in the areas of genetic and epigenetic determinants, as well as therapeutic chemistry.

The INRS occupies an important place in the Quebec health research ecosystem with its Armand-Frappier Health Biotechnology Centre in Laval. With the addition of three INRS faculty members in this strategic field, the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, already recognized as a national hub for sustainable health research, intends to consolidate and enhance Quebec's leadership in this field.
